Author Talks
Each year the Mathews Memorial Library presents several opportunities for the Mathews community to meet authors and hear them talk about their books. Recent speakers have included Chris Semtner, author of Edgar Allan Poe’s Richmond; David Taylor, author of The War of 1812 and the Rise of the U.S. Navy; and David Robbins, author of Scorched Earth.
Summer Programs for Children
In years past, Mathews County children attended a month-long, free archaeological adventure at the library. The theme changes but the opportunity for children to learn aboutthe wider world through stories, discussions with guest experts, crafts, and field trips is a constant from year to year.
The Highland Games
A perennial favorite of adults and children alike, this library-sponsored event brings Scottish games to Mathews County.
E-readers, E-books and Audio Books
Library patrons can use their own e-book or check out a library e-book, and can choose from a library of 5,000 e-books, audio-book titles.
Soothin' Summer Sounds
Free concerts at the library are a staple on the Mathews summer social calendar. Local and regional artists play jazz, gospel, blues, swing, and more.
